What do the different icon/step properties mean?

Here's a list of what the default icons represent when building a process

  1. Go to step does not have its own properties. Its name is derived from the name of the destination step.

  2. Process Step Properties: a set of properties common for each process step (except Go to step) consists of:

    Property

    Description

    Name

    Name of the process step

    Description

    Step's description

    Remarks

    Additional description

    Note

Short note assigned to the step

    Tag

Step’s tag that can replace the automatically generated step number on the process diagram

    Documents

Set of documents linked to the process step

Note: Documents property is not available in Engage Process Modeler Professional edition.

If you have already defined a custom type with the scope Activities or All types in your project then the property with the name of this type will automatically appear in all activities or all steps of all processes of this project.

  3. RASCI roles: This is a set of properties common for all activities, i.e., for Automatic, Manual, Computer, Internet, Telephone, Other, Decision, Meeting and Teamwork. These properties are shown in the Properties pane in the separate category RASCI.

They define a set of additional roles linked to an activity. Note that hey are taken into account neither in the process analysis (statistics and evaluation) not in the swim lanes view. For analysis and swim lanes only Roles property values are used.  Although Roles and Responsible have the same meaning you can define the set of Responsible roles for an activity independently from the actual value of Roles property of this activity.

    Property

    Description

    Responsible

Set of roles who do the work to achieve the task

    Accountable

Set of roles who are ultimately answerable for the correct completion of the task

    Support

Set of roles who help complete the task

    Consulted

Set of roles whose opinions are sought

    Informed

Set of roles who are kept up-to-date on progress

RASCI is one of the most common examples of Responsibility assignment matrix. There are also other standards like RACI, CAIRO, PARIS, DACI etc.  If you want to use another standard for your project you can redefine the responsibility roles in the projects settings The new name of the corresponding category will be derived from the first letters of the responsibility roles. However, we will always use the name RASCI for responsibility roles within this manual.

  5. Activity Properties

This is a set of properties common for all tasks, i.e., Automatic, Manual, Computer, Internet, Telephone, Other, Decision, Meeting and Teamwork tasks. It consists of process step properties, RASCI roles (not available in the Professional edition) and additionally:

    Owner

The role of the activity's owner

  6. Automatic Task: A set of Automatic task properties consists of activity properties excluding the Roles property (because no human being is involved in the execution of an automatic task).

List of textual conditions and numerical frequencies assigned to the outgoing branches.

    Risk point

Indicates that there is a high risk connected to this step.

  8. Decision:
Since a Decision is a task of making a decision that is followed by an actual choice, a set of Decision properties consists of activity properties and choice properties .

  9. Break:

A set of Break properties consists of process step properties and additionally:

    Property

    Description

    Value added

Indicates if the break adds business or customer value to the process.

    Risk point

Indicates that there is a high risk connected to this step.

A single Start has process step properties only and additionally:

    Property

    Description

    Trigger

Type of the event that is triggering the process: None, Timer or Message

If a process has entry points then the start step becomes a main entry point, See Entry point for the list of properties in this case.
