Engage Process
The Summer 2024 release of Engage Process is scheduled to go live on Monday, July 1st. In this email, we will provide updates on the new features and changes. As you may have come to expect from us, several smaller points have been tightened and fixed and some new features have been added.
Important note: This Engage Process release requires a database conversion that will be executed in the weekend of June 29 and 30, prior to the release. If you should work with the software platform at that time you may see incorrect looking date fields. This is anticipated and harmless and will be solved by the official release data of July 1st.
Highlights
Performance Improvements & Visio Import
Process management is becoming increasingly important for organisations to gain operational and financial control. As a result, we see a growing number of our customers using the Enterprise edition of our platform including (multi domain) Single Sign On and Process Approval functions to manage and monitor process improvements. This supports a wide variety of initiatives such as RPA (Robotic Process Automation), GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance), Transformation, Cost Savings, and more.
To support these efforts we continue to extend and improve our platform to stay ahead of customer demand. This release offers improvement performance, state of the art security and advanced connectivity with other systems.
After launching import from Sensus earlier this year, we have now added the first version of MS Visio Import. Prior to advancing their process management efforts with Engage Process, several customers had access to Visio for drawing process maps. To help make the transition easier, the import features for .VDX and .VSDX files allows you to build upon prior work done in Visio and add further detail and value in Engage Process. Disclaimer: MS Visio is a drawing tool that can contain technical and/or logical flaws.
Resolved and Improved Security
In the past weeks, an external party conducted a penetration test for Engage Process to examine potential security risks. The test uncovered one critical issue - that hackers could execute Cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks in various parts of the application. However, these vulnerabilities were fixed within 48 hours of the report, and there has been no active exploitation of these issues.
Following this and based on further recommendations from the test, our new release includes additional security improvements.
Refactoring
We continue our ongoing efforts to refactor the platform code, making it cleaner, faster and more secure. While not a comprehensive list of all improvements included in this release, a few key highlights are outlined below.
General
- Step type Break was renamed to Wait
- Database change for faster diagram retrieval (and reporting)
- Loading of published/shared/approval diagrams was refactored. This resulted in an ~400% improvement in speed
General Features
In addition to the Visio Import, Performance enhancements and Refactoring efforts, the R&D team has been working on a list of “smaller” improvements. A select few have been highlighted below.
Modeler
- Document property editor was improved for better behaviour when a user is not authorised to add documents
- Import from Sensus was added
- Import from Visio was added for (older) . VDX and .VSDX files
- When multiple steps are selected, pressing ‘Subprocess’ under the Start tab will convert the selection into a subprocess
- The messages in the message window can be exported to CSV (convenient after imports or evaluations with many warnings)
- Submit for publication size and resize behaviour was improved, including a larger window that can be resized more easily
- MPE (Mini Property Editor) width for process links is fixed
Teamboard
- Cards can have fields shown in bold. For example, “short description field” can be put in Bold, allowing it to become more prominent as the title of the card
- First field is focused when new items are created, allowing users to immediately enter data
Viewer/Viewer App
- Loading time was significantly improved, so users of the Viewer (App) can now find their processes faster
- Search now also includes processes for approval
Publisher
- Loading time was significantly improved for organisations with many published processes
- Pasting overviews is always enabled
